Eicoprene is a new eco-friendly alternative to the neoprene that used in most wetsuits. Made from a blend of oyster shell powder, limestone and recycled rubber rather than petroleum, Eicoprene has a significantly reduced environmental impact while maintainingthe high performance you need from a wetsuit – especially if you want to use it our chilly southern waters. All Picture Organic wetsuits made with Eicoprenewill give you extremely good flexibility, insulation, and durability.
However, the good news for the environment doesn’t stop there. To laminate the lining to the Eicoprene Picture uses a solvent free, water-based glue called Aqua-A™, which has no harmful chemicals to hurt you or the wildlife.
Warmth Performance Lining
The special WPF lining (Warmth Performance) is a super warm lining in Picture’s cold-water wetsuits. Together its 3D-Knit construction and the WPF lining provide give you extra level of warmth in cold waterby trapping air between each loop, while its denser fabric is supercomfy for long sessions.
Comfort Zones
Hands up who gets sore ribs after surfing from lying on your board! If that sounds like you, another awesome feature you’ll love are the special padded comfort zones that protect your ribs when you’repaddling.
Picture Wetsuits Equation Flexskin Steamers
The Equation range features Picture’s most advanced insulating technologies to keep you warm even on those chilly mornings when the surf is always at its best. The Equation 4mm/3mm Front Zip version is designed for sessions in chilly water (11°C-17 °C).The Equation 3mm/2mm Front Zip version is designed for sessions in warmer 14°C-19 °C water.
Both the 4/3 and 3/2 feature glued, blind-stitched, and fully-taped seams (aka GBS), which provide the protection, stretch, and leak resistance you need in cold water.
Picture Wetsuits Meta Spring Suits
Picture's Meta range of spring suits combines lighter materials and style for warmer water in the lakes or ocean. Like the Equation steamers, Picture Organic Meta wetsuits are made with the Eicoprene and Aqua-A™. The Meta SL 2/2 zip-free long-sleeve version is designed for summer sessions down south, or spring, summer, and warmer autumn days in the north. If you're touring New Zealand they make an excellent addition to your surf wardrobe. The flatlock seams increase flexibility for unrestricted freedom of movement, and the clever fuse cut and drain holes minimise water entry and maximise water draining so you feel like you’re hardly wearing a wetsuit at all. The Meta 2/2 also features Picture’s Thermal Standard lining for effective retention of body heat.
What Type of Wetsuit Do You Need?
And in case you’re new to this wetsuit thing the numbers you see on all wetsuits like 4/3 or 3/2 refers to the thickness of the wetsuit material. The first number is the thickness of the body of the wetsuit, and the second number is the thickness on the arms and legs.
You also have a choice of full-length wetsuits with long arms and legs which are known as ‘steamers’, or short arms and/or legs called ‘spring suits.’
You’ll see people surfing in steamers all year round in New Zealand, but spring suits are more appropriate for summertime. Steamers also give you protection from bumps and scrapes, which is quite handy when you’re learning!
