There's a Casio Watch for Every Adventure

In 1974 Casio which was already famous for making electronic calculators, came out with the Casiotron, the world’s first digital watch with an automatic calendar that could automatically adjust the date depending on the number of days in the month. Although that seems basic now, at the time it was a very big deal and all the cool people wanted to wear Casio watches. Casio has been making watches ever since but didn’t really come onto the adventure radar until invention of the G-Shock.

Who is the Casio G-Shock Made For?

Casio G-Shocks are used by everyone from surfers, canoists, climbers, runners, moustain bikers, BMXers, skateboarders, skiers, and astronauts because they’re lightweight, shock-resistant, and reliable in zero-gravity.

The G-Shock Triple 10 Concept

The inventor of the Casio G-Shock Kikuo Ibe smashed his father’s watch in the playground when he was a child, which set him on the path to create a watch that would never break. His idea was the Triple 10 concept that required a watch to survive a 10-metre drop, withstand 10-bar water pressure and have a 10-year battery life.

Brutal G-Shock Testing

Casio G-Shock testing

To test them, early G-Shock prototypes were thrown off the top floors at the Casio HQ. But testing of G-Shocks gets much more hardcore than just tossing them out high windows. Certain G-Shock models are tested by being frozen solid, then struck at high speed to simulate extreme shock under cold conditions. It’s the equivalent of using a G-Shock as an ice hockey puck with the test being a slap shot. That’s something very few other watches could even hope to survive.

The G-Shock Internal Floating Module

What makes a G-Shock crazy tough isn’t just the familiar chunky high-impact resistant resin shell. Its internal mechanism is suspended inside the case so hits are absorbed and dissapated before they reach the watches' movement. This shock-isolation system allows the G-Shock to withstand incredible abuse. That makes the G-Shock perfect to take on your next adventure on the trail, in the skatepark, on the water, and far into the mountains.
